The Ambassadors of Remembrance
Ambassadors of Remembrance are committed to human rights and against racism, anti-Semitism, and xenophobia. They serve as authentic role models, conversation partners, and thought leaders for peers, thus serving as a socialization factor within their peer groups due to their own knowledge and moral sensitivity.
The history of Ambassadors of Remembrance began in 2011. A joint memorial trip led (former) Mayor Sierau, young people from Dortmund, and representatives from the city and youth organizations to Auschwitz. Faced with the unimaginable cruelty of Auschwitz, the joint decision to keep the memory alive for future generations gained new strength. What emerged was a participation project in which young people have the opportunity to actively engage in commemorative work. They consistently succeed in recruiting new young people. Over the past years, several hundred young people have been appointed as Ambassadors of Remembrance. They are authentic role models, conversation partners, and thought leaders for peers. They reach several thousand young people annually with their activities, accompanied and supported by Jugendring Dortmund.
Path of Remembrance
Several hundred resistance fighters and forced laborers were murdered by the Gestapo in the final days of the war in the area of Rombergpark and Bittermark.
The Path of Remembrance aims to give a face to the anonymous victims. It showcases 20 individuals who were murdered in the final days of the war, representing the nearly 300 people killed in Rombergpark and Bittermark.
As reliable partners, the Ambassadors have been supporting the city's commemoration on Good Friday for many years. The Path of Remembrance is one of their numerous contributions.
